Tianping Road

by on Jul.28, 2011, under Night ★, Photography, Smörgåsbord

Wow, has it really been a couple months?? That’s no good, I’ll be working on that.
Been busy, been sick… let’s just say it’s been hectic.

Here are some quick shots I went out to capture last week when I saw the sky was going to be a good one… all these were taken no more than a 5min walk from my new apartment.  The pictured movie theater was opened several months ago, it’s a nice faux-art-deco structure actually.

Anyway, that’s all I have to say about that.

CNY – Day 4

by on Feb.11, 2011, under Night ★, Photography, Smörgåsbord

Day 4 of Chinese New Year… went for a stroll around Xujiahui (actually, the first 3 are from around my office).  Fireworks in every direction, every night for almost 2 weeks long… Shanghai almost literally turns into a warzone.

The night of day 5 is when all hell breaks loose (besides New Years Eve of course)… and those pictures will be uploaded soon.  The images of  Chinese New Year day 5 from last year still holds the record for the highest traffic to my blog, ever… so, why not check out that post again HERE (warning: dope photography!).  This year’s to follow soon!

Wide Angled – Pt. 1

by on Jul.30, 2010, under Night ★, Photography, Smörgåsbord

I got the chance to borrow an absolutely wicked lens from a friend for the past week (Roy Frankland; check out his work), these are shots from days 1-2.  It is a Sigma 12-24mm… mix that with a Canon 5D MkII and this is what you get.

XJH Park 002 – 5Diesel

by on May.30, 2010, under Night ★, Photography, Smörgåsbord

I got my hands on the brilliant Canon 5D Mk II, what a truly glorious piece of machinery.

The moon was strange that night, as I had never before seen such a bright start hovering so close to it…

XJH-002

by on May.25, 2010, under Night ★, Photography, Smörgåsbord

These are images I took just over a month ago from around my neighborhood, Xujiahui.  When I moved here, this site was just a normal block filled with shops and traditional Chinese houses (my complex is right across the street), which was then reduced to this construction site 2 months later, and is now subsequently, a massive parking lot.  So goes the large-scale urbanization of China.

My somewhat short walk took me from Tianping Road & Guangyuan Road, across Huashan, up Gongcheng, and back down Hongqiao to the XJH intersection (by the way, in case I haven’t mentioned it before, all the streets in Shanghai (well, most of them) are named after the cities and towns of China).

XJH-001

My first proper exploration of Xujiahui… from north to east (here is a photo of XJH from 1995!).

^Oh, and my first glimpse of the GT-R!

XJH Park

by on Mar.24, 2010, under Night ★, Photography, Smörgåsbord

So I recently moved to right around Xujiahui, actually right by it.  Simple put: a great area… it’s like a city center just outside the city center.  Actually, it is a city center.

I’m 2 blocks away from the massive intersection that is XJH and less than a block away from Xujiahui Park (map), a modern park I only explored for the first time this past weekend.
It got a little chilly while shooting, so I had to cut it short, but for a 5 minute walk, I’m pretty sure I’ll be back soon.
