CNY – Day 4
by timvan on Feb.11, 2011, under Night ★, Photography, Smörgåsbord
Day 4 of Chinese New Year… went for a stroll around Xujiahui (actually, the first 3 are from around my office). Fireworks in every direction, every night for almost 2 weeks long… Shanghai almost literally turns into a warzone.
The night of day 5 is when all hell breaks loose (besides New Years Eve of course)… and those pictures will be uploaded soon. The images of Chinese New Year day 5 from last year still holds the record for the highest traffic to my blog, ever… so, why not check out that post again HERE (warning: dope photography!). This year’s to follow soon!
Whoops

Well, it doesn’t happen very often, but it seems I totally forgot about a shoot I went on… way back in February.
Although I do have a good excuse, as right after that shoot something happened… the absolute mayhem that was Chinese New Year (see the amazing pix again). That post incidentally still holds the record for most traffic to this blog (cheers for that, by the way!).
Anyway, so this post is the lost shoot just before Chinese New Year, just a stroll down my street (Yong Jia Road) to Fuxing Park, just to give a realer idea of what my [old] neighborhood was like. Enjoy.

Chinese New Year – Shanghai Warfare:
I was almost part of the image above… standing where that guy is standing (just to the right) about 40 seconds prior to this shot. There was also a group of roughly a dozen people behind that parked car (to the left), luckily no one was seriously injured.
Well anyway, I will keep this short, as you’re eyes have probably already wondered to the thumbnails below.
The Chinese know how to celebrate New Years… one week of intensely beautiful and brutal warfare. Also probably explains why I haven’t seen a pigeon in months.
Video I took around the time I captured images #20-21 above
And here is a video of Shanghai at midnight on Day 1 (not by me, as I left my point-n-shoot in the back of a taxi that night, RIP) that shows the scope of the mayhem that is Chinese New Year, (check it out!).
Oh, and by the way, all these photos (+ my video) were taken a block away from each other and on night 5!
